Pressure Vessels, Pressure Piping and Safety Valves

Coal Fired Boilers

Sharp Eye Engineering is a specialist in coal fired boiler inspections, with experience in both sub-critical and super-critical boilers during planned outages and forced outages due to tube leaks. 


Key inspection activities include, but are not limited to: 


  • Thorough review of the Inspection Matrix and development of a detailed inspection plan outlining the sequence of tasks, required NDT, hold points, and responsible personnel. 
  • Liaising with key stakeholders such as the Outage Manager and engineering team to ensure all inspection activities are included in the program.  
  • Effectively manage all on-site inspection activities, ensuring seamless coordination with engineering, welding, and outage execution teams. 
  • Systematically inspect boiler components, identify, and report any defects, deterioration, or potential failure mechanisms. Providing clear, actionable recommendations for necessary repairs, further assessments, or adjustments to the inspection plan. 
  • External Visual Inspection: Comprehensive boiler walkdown’s and inspection of all accessible external pressure parts, insulation, cladding, and structural supports & piping hot and cold inspections. 
  • Internal Visual Inspection: Detailed internal inspection of boiler systems; waterwalls, pendants, elements, manifolds, headers, and other accessible components once the boiler is opened. 
  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Ensuring that NDT is executed as per the inspection matrix and findings are reviewed for the component’s fitness for service. NDT may include Ultrasonic Thickness Testing (UTT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle (MT), Dye Penetrant (PT), and other advanced methods when required.
  • Safety Valve Verification: Confirming that all associated safety valves have been inspected and recertified as per statutory requirements, reviewing findings to identify problematic valves that may require further investigation.
